URGENT NOTICE: FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY TARGETING CHILD SUPPORT CUSTOMERS
DCSS has been notified of a “phishing scam” that targets individuals who have child support cases. If you receive an automated telephone call claiming to be the California Department of Child Support Services (DCSS), do not provide your Social Security number or any other personal information.
To verify that any child support calls you receive are authentic please call your Local Child Support Agency at 1-866-901-3212.
The County of Santa Clara Department of Child Support Services is a County Agency. We are open every Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with the exception of holidays. We do not participate in the State's Furlough Fridays. It is our pleasure to offer you the same level of customer service on those furlough days as any other day of the week.
New Passport Rules
Beginning June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens who wish to travel to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean or Bermuda will need a passport. Parents who have a case with their local child support agency and who owe more than $2,500 in past due child support, will be denied issuance or renewal of a passport due to federal child support statute laws that have been in effect since 1996.
To avoid denial of a passport application or renewal of an existing passport for the purposes of exiting the country, parents who owe more than $2,500 in past due child support, should take steps to pay all past due child support as soon as possible. To reach our local child support office, call the statewide toll free number at 1-866-901-3212.
To receive your payments by direct deposit to your bank account or to receive an electronic payment card (EPC), visit the California State Disbursement (SDU) website*.
*You will need your 10 digit Participant number and your Social Security Number to enroll.
